Listowel launch the new Local Link evening and night services.

Local Link Kerry welcomed Minster for Transport Tourism and Sport Shane Ross and the official launch of Evening and  Night time services.

Transport Minister Shane Ross was in Listowel for the launch of the first of seven links for Kerry. Minister of State for Tourism, local TD Brendan Griffin, also officiated last night in Listowel.

The provision of evening and night services is to address unmet transport needs in rural areas and is envisaged all services will be operational by late June/early July 2018, running until Dec 2018 on a pilot basis.

Carmel Walsh, general manager of Local Link Kerry which already co-ordinates 160 routes in rural Kerry, said she greatly welcomes the weekend service, which she said is being seen as “an extension” of the existing network used by 150,000 passengers a year in the county.

This route covers two loops from the outskirts of the Listowel Town into the town Centre.  This is a public transport service which will provide access to customers who wish to access services and amenities in the town and is a pilot service that will operate on Friday Nights offering door to door pickups within these routes. The service starts at 7.30pm and returning from Listowel at 11.15pm on one of the routes, with a later schedule on the second.

Over fifty evening services are being launched nationally as part of the new scheme.
